SILETZ Ore. (KPTV) – A dramatic car chase came to a halt near South Beach State Park when a quick-thinking bystander bravely stood in the path of the fleeing vehicle, as reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident unfolded around 6 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, when a stolen car was reported missing from the Siletz Valley Charter School. The car’s owner also mentioned that a firearm was believed to be stored inside the vehicle.

Portland State University estimated repairs for the library to be around $750,000. According to the school, the number could increase or decrease by $125,000.

At approximately 7 a.m., a deputy from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office spotted the stolen vehicle on Highway 101 in South Beach and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver of the car refused to comply and instead veered into South Beach State Park.

Despite the presence of innocent bystanders, the driver continued to drive recklessly, putting lives at risk, according to the LCSO. It was at this crucial moment that a courageous citizen stepped forward and stood in the path of the oncoming vehicle, forcing the driver to come to a stop.

Law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended the driver, who has been identified as 47-year-old Randy Johnson from Newport. Johnson was taken into custody without further incident.
