Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Killeen, Tx (FOX 44) – A 26-year-old woman from Austin, Savanna Nicole Spurlock, has been arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide in connection with a fatal traffic crash in Killeen. The incident, which occurred on November 24, 2023, resulted in the tragic death of 34-year-old Jessikah Richardson, who was a passenger on a motorcycle involved in the collision.

The arrest was made by members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, who apprehended Spurlock on Monday following an investigation into the chain reaction crash that claimed Richardson’s life. The crash involved a silver 2022 Chevrolet pickup truck and a white 2018 Chevrolet SUV driven by Spurlock.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the Killeen Police Department, the collision took place at the intersection of Watercrest Drive and Bachelor Button Boulevard. The pickup truck was stopped in the inside westbound lane, waiting to turn southbound onto Bachelor Button Boulevard, when it was struck from behind by Spurlock’s SUV. This impact caused the pickup truck to be pushed into the eastbound lane, where it was hit by a red and black 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle carrying two individuals.

Tragically, the force of the collision caused Jessikah Richardson, the passenger on the motorcycle, to be thrown onto the roadway, where she was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Spurlock and the driver of the pickup truck sustained injuries and were treated at Advent Hospital before being released.

Distraction Allegations

Killeen Police Department spokesperson, Ofelia Miramontez, stated that investigators determined that Spurlock was distracted at the time of the crash due to the use of a mobile phone. This finding led to a complaint from the Bell County District’s Attorney’s Office, resulting in Spurlock being charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide. Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson issued a warrant for her arrest on May 8, 2024.

Following the warrant, U.S. Marshals located Spurlock in Temple and took her into custody before transporting her to the Bell County Jail. The case serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of distracted driving and the potentially devastating consequences it can have on the lives of others.
