MORENCI, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities have reported that Ivory James Welch III, a man suspected of fatally shooting his 76-year-old mother and two sisters in Mississippi, was killed in a shootout with Arizona state troopers.

Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers stated that the bodies of the victims, identified as Ida Thomas Welch, Vicky Renee Welch, and Crystal Lynn Welch, were discovered at a home in Ridgeland, north of Jackson. Crystal Welch, one of the deceased, was a well-respected associate clinical professor at Mississippi College School of Law.

Manhunt for Ivory James Welch III

After the discovery of the bodies, a manhunt was launched for Ivory James Welch III. Welch’s vehicle was tracked from the crime scene in Mississippi all the way to Dallas, indicating that he was on the run. An arrest warrant was issued for Welch, and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was mobilized to locate him.

Deadly Confrontation in Arizona

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials reported that troopers located Welch on a highway near Morenci, a small town in eastern Arizona. When troopers attempted to arrest Welch, he opened fire on them, leading to a fatal shootout where Welch was killed.

The incident, which took place around 7:30 a.m. on Monday, ended the manhunt for Welch, bringing closure to the tragic events that unfolded in Mississippi.
