A woman from Little River, South Carolina is currently facing charges after allegedly consuming drugs just before the birth of her baby. The Myrtle Beach police were informed about suspected abuse/neglect, revealing that the mother of the baby had tested positive for fentanyl, cocaine, nicotine, and buprenorphine during her pregnancy, as per an arrest report.

Further investigation by the authorities revealed that the mother, identified as 33-year-old Ashlie Mishoe, had used heroin two to three days prior to giving birth, as stated in the arrest report. The toxicology report conducted days before the baby’s arrival on January 17 indicated the presence of various drugs, including fentanyl and morphine, in the umbilical blood of the newborn.

According to an incident report, a safety plan from the South Carolina Department of Social Services has been put in place. Mishoe has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person.
