Caitlin Thao : Illegal Sexual Contact: St. Paul Teacher Charged

A 24-year-old teacher from St. Paul, Minnesota, named Caitlin Thao, has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly engaging in a prohibited relationship with a 17-year-old student. The case was brought to the attention of authorities by Thao’s husband, and she now faces up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine if convicted.

An active warrant has been issued for Thao, who is currently not in custody and her whereabouts are unknown to authorities.

On February 23, police received a report regarding a substitute teacher, identified as Thao, who was reportedly having sexual relations with a 17-year-old student at St. Paul City School on University Avenue.

During the investigation, the executive director of the charter school informed police that Thao had pulled the student from class without proper authorization, as stated in the criminal complaint.

According to the executive director, there were prior complaints about Thao’s inappropriate behavior with students, leading to her resignation on February 26 following a meeting with the school principal.

Thao’s husband discovered the incident and informed the student’s mother on March 8. Subsequently, police interviewed the student on March 13, where he revealed details of the alleged sexual encounter that took place in Thao’s middle school classroom in February.

The student disclosed that Thao had engaged in inappropriate communication with him, including calling him handsome, flirting, and buying gifts for him and his friends. Despite declining Thao’s advances for further encounters, the student claimed she continued to solicit him for sex through text messages and invitations to her home when her husband was not present.
