Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in western Wisconsin have reported that one person had to be airlifted following an incident where two individuals fell into the water.

According to a statement from the Barron County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on May 11 around 9:10 p.m. Multiple calls were received reporting that two individuals were in the water near the docks at Lakeside Cantina. One person was quickly located and rescued from the water, while the second person remained missing.

Emergency services from multiple agencies, including the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Mayo Helicopter, responded to the scene. The missing person, identified only as a 63-year-old from La Crosse, was eventually located and retrieved from the water.

Lifesaving procedures were performed on the second individual before they were airlifted to a hospital in Eau Claire. Authorities have stated that the individual is currently in critical condition. The first person, a 58-year-old also from La Crosse, was treated at the scene and released.

Alcohol a Contributing Factor

Initial investigations suggest that the incident occurred when one person was attempting to board a boat from the dock and accidentally fell into the water. When the individual failed to resurface, a second person jumped in to assist. However, the second person encountered difficulties and had to be rescued with the help of bystanders.

The DNR and Barron County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, with alcohol believed to be a contributing factor.
