Skeletal remains discovered outside Atlantic City three years ago have been identified as a man from Staten Island who was last seen alive in 2011, authorities announced on Monday.
The remains have been confirmed to belong to Kevin Morris, a 32-year-old man who went missing in October 2011, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Disappearance and Discovery of Remains
Kevin Morris was reported missing in 2011 after telling friends that he was travelling to visit his girlfriend. Despite having no known physical or mental problems, Morris disappeared without a trace.
Almost a decade later, in June 2021, investigators discovered skeletal remains in Galloway Township, north of Atlantic City. The remains were found on land belonging to the Pomona Gunning Club.
Investigation and Autopsy
An autopsy was conducted in 2021, but authorities have not disclosed any details about the cause of Morris’ death. No suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his disappearance.
In June 2023, police appealed to the public for help in identifying the remains. They disclosed that several items of clothing and jewellery were found near the body, including a Children’s Place sweater, Levi’s jeans, a metal ring, and a single stud earring.
Continued Investigation
The Major Crimes Unit of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Morris’ death. Anyone with information about his disappearance or death is urged to contact law enforcement.
Multiple agencies, including the county prosecutor, Galloway police, and New Jersey State Police, are collaborating on the investigation to bring closure to this long-standing case.
