A devastating incident took place on the outskirts of the city on Sunday, resulting in the untimely death of a 20-year-old nursing student. Alby Joseph, a dedicated BSc Nursing student at Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Hesaraghatta Road, met with a fatal accident while on a weekend trip with his friends.
Joseph, accompanied by two friends on another bike, was en route to Devarayanadurga when tragedy struck at around 5.45 a.m. The young student lost control of his scooter at a high speed, failing to notice a road hump which led to the fatal crash. Despite wearing a helmet, Joseph succumbed to internal injuries at the scene of the accident.
Originally from Kerala, Joseph was residing in a hostel as his father worked in Dubai. The post-mortem report revealed no traces of alcohol in his system, indicating that the tragic incident was purely a result of negligence.
The road hump in question was strategically placed on the highway near a service road to slow down vehicles merging onto the main road. The police, upon receiving a complaint, have initiated legal proceedings under sections 279 (rash and negligent driving) and section 304A (causing death due to rash and negligence).
