Accident – Death – Obituary News : A shocking incident of theft and deception has come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, where a house help, his father, and a relative were arrested for their involvement in a heinous crime. The accused trio allegedly gave sleeping pills to an elderly woman instead of her prescribed medication and then proceeded to steal jewellery and cash from the house. The house help, identified as Mohd. Suhail, 19, his father Mohd Sharif, 40, and his relative Shakil, 30, were apprehended by the police following the discovery of their nefarious activities.
The police revealed that the accused had been carrying out the theft for some time, operating with a well-planned strategy. The young house help had been employed at the house for two years and had been surreptitiously stealing valuables with the assistance of his father and a distant relative. The trio used Diazepam, a sleeping pill, to incapacitate the elderly woman before making off with jewellery worth Rs 15.5 lakh and Rs 50,000 in cash. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Durgesh Kumar disclosed, “He used to take her valuables and small quantities of cash once she fell asleep. In the period of a few months, he took away jewellery worth more than Rs 15.5 lakh and cash above Rs 1 lakh.”
The matter came to light when the son of the elderly woman, Saif Samadi, a businessman from the Saadatganj police area, noticed the theft and promptly informed the authorities. An FIR was registered on April 25 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including administering poison, theft in the building, and criminal conspiracy. Subsequently, the accused were apprehended, and additional charges of theft, dealing with stolen property, and disposing of stolen items were filed.
According to the police, Suhail, entrusted with the care of the elderly woman’s health and medication, abused his position to carry out the thefts discreetly. He would administer Diazepam to the woman before pilfering jewellery and cash in small amounts to avoid suspicion. The stolen items were then passed on to his accomplices, Mohd. Sharif and Shakil, for disposal.
This disturbing incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of the elderly and the importance of vigilance in safeguarding their well-being and possessions. The swift action taken by the police in apprehending the culprits highlights the commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of the community.
