A devastating early morning car accident in Sabah has left a trail of destruction, claiming the lives of several individuals and leaving others fighting for survival. The incidents, which occurred on separate occasions, have sent shockwaves through the local community.
Fatal Accident Involving 22-year-old Woman
One of the accidents involved a 22-year-old woman named Nurul Syakina Kasim, who tragically lost her life in a collision on the Keningau-Tenom Road. The young woman was driving towards Keningau when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a four-wheel drive travelling in the opposite direction.
Unfortunately, Nurul Syakina sustained severe head injuries and succumbed to her wounds at the scene. Her 17-year-old brother, who was a passenger in the car, suffered critical injuries, including a severe leg injury and a fractured left arm. He is currently receiving treatment in the Hospital Keningau’s Red Zone.
The driver of the four-wheel drive vehicle, a 38-year-old man, escaped with minor injuries. The Fire and Rescue Department worked tirelessly to extract Nurul Syakina’s body from the wrecked car and rescue her injured brother.
Tragic Loss of Three Lives in Semporna-Tawau Road Collision
In another heartbreaking incident, a head-on collision on the Semporna-Tawau Road claimed the lives of three individuals, including a nine-month-old baby girl. The victims, identified as Haira Herwan, Mariam Ali (66), and Mashita Sabur (24), were part of a group of six individuals travelling from Tawau to Semporna.
The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, lost control of the car, causing it to veer into the opposite lane and collide with a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) travelling in the opposite direction. The impact of the collision resulted in the tragic deaths of the three passengers, while the driver and two other passengers sustained serious injuries.
Emergency responders and passers-by rushed to the scene to extricate the victims and transport them to Hospital Semporna for medical treatment. The injured individuals, including a seven-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, are currently receiving care at the hospital.
Investigations and Legal Action
Authorities are conducting investigations into both accidents under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The drivers involved in the collisions will face legal repercussions for their role in the tragic incidents.
