SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man from Kansas has been handed a prison sentence for his involvement in a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a teenager.
This week, Fabian Griffin, a 49-year-old resident of Wichita, was sentenced to more than 12 years behind bars for his role in a fatal event that occurred in 2017. The incident, which involved the unsafe handling of a weapon, led to the untimely demise of a teenager, as reported by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office.
Back in November 2022, Griffin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the case.
The unfortunate event took place just after 11:30 p.m. in March 2017, prompting a response from law enforcement to the 1700 block of South Yale in Wichita. Upon arrival, authorities discovered three individuals inside the residence, namely Griffin, a 25-year-old individual, and a teenager later identified as Casey Lawrukiewicz.
Lawrukiewicz was promptly transported by EMS to a nearby hospital for treatment. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on March 4, 2017.
As part of the sentencing, the judge also mandated Griffin to pay $5,000 in restitution to the Kansas Crime Victims Fund. This amount is to cover the expenses incurred for Lawrukiewicz’s funeral, as confirmed by the district attorney’s office.
