A tragic incident unfolded in Euclid, Ohio, where a police officer was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance call on Saturday night. Officer Jacob Derbin, who had been with the department for less than a year, was ambushed and fatally shot during the investigation at the scene.

According to reports from Euclid Police, Officer Derbin was dispatched to a location just before 10 p.m. on Saturday. Despite efforts to save him, Derbin succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

Ohio Attorney General David Yost expressed his condolences and vowed to bring the perpetrator to justice. Yost stated, “The promise to protect is signed with the blood of our officers. The killer who ambushed Officer Derbin will be found and will receive the full measure of justice.”

The Euclid Police Department, along with various other law enforcement agencies, are actively searching for the suspect responsible for this heinous crime. The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Deshawn Anthony Vaughn.

In a statement released by Euclid’s Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail, the community is urged to come together in solidarity and support in the wake of Derbin’s tragic death. The Mayor’s statement reads, “Let us unite in remembrance and gratitude for the sacrifice made, and pledge to uphold the values of compassion, resilience, and community spirit that this devastating loss so poignantly reminds us of.”
