Accident – Death – Obituary News : Four individuals sustained injuries in a single-vehicle collision on the afternoon of May 11 on Interstate 29, close to the 60.4-mile marker, which is roughly 16 miles north of Mound City.

The Missouri Highway Patrol disclosed that the incident involved a 2008 Toyota Avalon, operated by Karla R. Koontz, a 58-year-old resident of Mound City. The vehicle was heading southbound in the left lane when the car in front executed an abrupt braking action. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Koontz switched lanes, leading to a loss of control over the Toyota. Subsequently, the vehicle collided with the west guardrail using its right front fender. Afterward, the car veered onto the east side of the road and eventually came to a halt in the southeast-facing lane.

Koontz and three passengers, including an 80-year-old man named Fern K. Hamm from Mound City, as well as two juveniles aged 13 and 14 from Branson, sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident. It was reported that none of the passengers, except for Hamm, were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Following the accident, the injured parties were transported to Mosaic St. Joseph Hospital for medical attention. The Toyota Avalon sustained significant damage and was subsequently towed from the scene by Blue Knight.

Officers from the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance at the accident site to manage the situation.

This occurrence serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to safety measures, such as wearing seat belts, to mitigate the risk of injury in the event of a vehicular accident. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies and emergency medical services played a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of those involved in the crash..
