Residents of the historic city of Zaria in Kaduna are in shock and mourning following the arrest of Abdul Azeez Idris by the police. The 32-year-old man stands accused of kidnapping and murdering his 6-year-old cousin, Aisha Dahiru, in a shocking and brutal crime.
According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, the tragic incident occurred when young Aisha was on her way to Islamiya school (Qur’anic school) and was abducted by her own cousin, Abdul Azeez Idris. Despite the family paying a ransom of N8 million as demanded by an unknown caller, the perpetrator still carried out the heinous act.
ASP Mansir Hassan revealed that the heartbreaking events unfolded on February 12, 2024. The case was reported to the Zaria City police station by the victim’s father, Saidu Dahiru, who resides in Angwan Juma’a, Zaria. The matter was swiftly transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kaduna for further investigation.
In a statement, the police chief provided details of the investigation, stating, “The suspect confessed to the heinous crime, admitting to slaying the innocent child by brutally slashing her neck with a razor blade. He claimed that he took this drastic action because the victim recognized him, and then proceeded to dispose of her lifeless body in a well.”
The State Commissioner of Police, Audu Ali, has assured the public that the case will be meticulously investigated to ensure that justice is served for young Aisha Saidu and her grieving family. Abdul Azeez Idris will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community in Zaria, with many expressing their horror and disbelief at the actions of a family member towards an innocent child.
