Three individuals, including a minor, have been taken into custody by the Tamil Nadu police for their alleged involvement in the murder of a 58-year-old woman in Chennai. The suspects, identified as M Dheena (21), R Vignesh (20), and a 17-year-old boy, reportedly entered their neighbour Ponni’s residence and committed the heinous crime.
Authorities revealed that the victim’s son-in-law, Ayyappan, contacted law enforcement around 8 pm on Thursday, May 9. Upon arriving at the scene, it was tragically discovered that Ponni had already passed away.
It has come to light that Dheena and Vignesh frequented the boy’s home in the absence of his parents to engage in alcohol consumption. Vignesh was romantically involved with a girl from the neighbourhood and introduced her to the boy’s residence recently.
Upon learning of these activities, Ponni, who resided next door to the 17-year-old, informed the boy’s parents. Consequently, the boy was reprimanded for hosting his friends. In the meantime, Vignesh’s relationship soured, leading to a sense of resentment among the trio.
Ayyappan made the distressing discovery of Ponni’s lifeless body upon returning home from work. Subsequently, he filed a report with the police, resulting in the registration of a case under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Dheena and Vignesh have been remanded to judicial custody, while the juvenile suspect has been placed in a juvenile detention facility.
