EUCLID, Ohio — A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night in Euclid, Ohio, as a police officer was fatally shot in what authorities are describing as an “ambush.” The suspect responsible for the heinous act remains at large, with the search intensifying into Sunday.
The officer, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was shot while responding to a call about a disturbance at a residence on the 300 block of East 211th Street in Euclid around 9:56 p.m. EDT, as reported by WEWS-TV.
According to WOIO-TV, as the officer was conducting an investigation at the scene, the suspect launched a sudden and unprovoked attack, shooting the officer in what can only be described as a cowardly ambush.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, the officer tragically succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by the television station.
Euclid police spokesperson Capt. Mitch Houser identified the suspected shooter as 24-year-old Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, as reported by WJW-TV. Houser emphasized that Vaughn is to be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Authorities believe that the suspect may be driving a white 2017 Volkswagen Passat with a temporary license plate displayed in the rear window, according to the television station.
In a statement released early Sunday, Houser urged the community to keep the fallen officer, his family, loved ones, and the Euclid Police Department in their thoughts and prayers. Further updates on the incident will be shared in due course.
