EUCLID, Ohio — A tragic incident unfolded in Northeast Ohio as a police officer was shot and killed during an altercation in Euclid, Cuyahoga County. The suspect, identified as Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, remains at large, prompting a statewide Ohio Blue Alert.

The harrowing event occurred on the 300 block of East 211th Street when law enforcement responded to a disturbance call just before 10 p.m. Saturday. According to reports from Cleveland 19, the suspect ambushed the officer, resulting in a fatal shooting.

In response to the incident, the Euclid Police Department issued an Ohio Blue Alert, calling for public assistance in locating Vaughn. The Ohio Attorney General’s website defines a Blue Alert as a notification system to seek help when a law enforcement officer is critically injured, killed, or missing, and the suspect(s) are still at large.

Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, a 24-year-old black male with black hair and brown eyes, is the prime suspect in the shooting. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 215 pounds, Vaughn was last seen fleeing the scene in a white 2017 Volkswagen Passat with Ohio license plate number R947155.

The fallen officer was rushed to University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, as reported by Cleveland News 5. The identity of the officer has not been disclosed at this time.

Euclid PD, in collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies, is actively searching for Vaughn, who is considered armed and extremely dangerous. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is aiding in the ongoing investigation to apprehend the suspect.
