Authorities in the town of Farmville, North Carolina have reported the arrest of a man following a high-speed chase on Saturday morning. The incident, which took place near the Wilson and Greene County line, involved a trooper from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Details of the Chase

According to reports, the trooper was conducting speed enforcement on I-587 when they observed a burgundy 2023 Kia Carnival travelling at 90 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone. The trooper attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop, leading to a pursuit that eventually ended in Farmville.

The chase came to a halt when the driver abruptly stopped the vehicle and fled on foot at the intersection of US-258 at Bynum Drive. The trooper pursued the individual through a residential area and into an open field.

Arrest and Recovery

During the pursuit, the fleeing individual turned and pointed a handgun at the trooper, prompting the trooper to fire and strike the suspect multiple times in the leg. The suspect, identified as Kenneth Charles Kinard, a 35-year-old white male from Virginia Beach, Virginia, was then secured and taken into custody.

A female passenger who was in the vehicle at the time surrendered without incident and was unharmed. Upon further investigation, authorities recovered a firearm, illegal drugs, and drug paraphernalia from the scene.

Legal Action and Investigation

It was revealed that Kinard had multiple warrants for his arrest in Virginia, including charges for Contempt of Court, Possession of Schedule I & II Drugs, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Felony Grand Larceny. Charges against Kinard in North Carolina are forthcoming.

Following protocol, the involved trooper will be placed on administrative duty. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. Any further inquiries should be directed to the SBI as their investigation continues.
