Following a major development in a long-standing missing person case, Cumbria Constabulary has confirmed that human remains discovered in a woodland area belong to a man whose disappearance led to a murder inquiry.
Paul Taylor, a 56-year-old resident of Annan in Dumfries and Galloway, was last seen on 17th October 2023. His disappearance sparked a widespread search effort, with his Vauxhall Corsa being traced to Carlisle on the same evening. Subsequently, the vehicle was found abandoned in Langwathby, northern Cumbria, two days later.
After a month of investigations, Cumbria Constabulary launched a murder inquiry into Mr Taylor’s disappearance. The case took a significant turn earlier this month when suspected human remains were discovered in the Finglandrigg Wood area, located off the B5307, to the west of Carlisle.
Following forensic analysis, detectives have now confirmed that the human remains belong to Paul Taylor. The family of the deceased has been informed of this tragic development.
The police have stated that there will be a continued presence at the scene as investigations progress. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area to allow officers to carry out their work effectively.
Two teenagers have been charged in connection with the case. In February, a 19-year-old man appeared in court facing charges of murder. Subsequently, another 19-year-old man was charged with assisting an offender in relation to the investigation.
