In two separate operations, the crime detection unit attached to the Kashigaon police station has successfully apprehended three individuals involved in drug peddling. The suspects were found to be in possession of over two kilograms of ganja (cannabis). The first incident occurred when a patrolling unit, consisting of personnel from the crime detection unit, noticed two suspicious individuals attempting to hide behind a truck upon spotting the police jeep near the Jari-Mari Lake in Kashigaon during the early hours of Thursday.
Arrested For Ganja Smuggling From Gujarat
Upon conducting a search, the police officers discovered slightly over one kilogram of ganja in the possession of the two suspects. The individuals have been identified as Rajan Vasantbhai Patel (23) and Sagar Chimanbhai Wagasiya (24), both originating from Rajkot in Gujarat. During interrogation, the duo admitted to smuggling the illicit substance from Gujarat with the intention of selling it to potential buyers in the area. In a separate incident, the police received a tip-off regarding the presence of a drug peddler in their jurisdiction.
Cracking Down On Drug Trafficking
Following the tip-off, law enforcement officers set up a trap and successfully apprehended the suspect, identified as Prakash Vikram Jadhav (54), with 1.04 kg of ganja in his possession. The combined street value of the seized contraband from both cases is estimated to be over Rs.46,000. Suspecting the involvement of the three individuals in a larger drug trafficking network, the police have charged them under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine the source of the contraband and identify potential buyers involved in the illegal drug trade.
