Tragedy struck in Catawba County late Friday night when a motorcyclist lost their life in a fatal accident. The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. on Oxford School Road near US 70, as confirmed by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The victim, identified as 56-year-old Wesley Todd Crawford, was riding a 2010 Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Oxford School Road when the unfortunate event unfolded. Reports indicate that the motorcycle crossed the center line, veered off the left side of the road, and overturned, resulting in Crawford being ejected from the vehicle and succumbing to their injuries at the scene.

Authorities investigating the incident have stated that excessive speed played a significant role in the crash. As a result, Oxford School Road had to be closed for approximately two hours to facilitate the investigation and clear the wreckage.
