A young man from Chicago is currently facing serious legal consequences after being involved in a fatal DUI crash that resulted in the death of his passenger. Jaime Torres Jr., aged 20 and hailing from Chicago Lawn, has been charged with two felony counts related to the tragic incident.
Details of the Charges
Torres has been charged with one felony count of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle, one felony count of aggravated DUI/accident/death, and a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, he has also received two citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failing to reduce speed, as per police reports.
The Incident
The incident occurred on the 3100 block of North Lake Shore Drive in the early hours of Thursday morning. Torres reportedly swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle, leading to him hitting a curb and then crashing into a light pole, according to authorities.
The Victim
The passenger in Torres’ vehicle, a 25-year-old named Jorge A. Castillo from DesPlaines, tragically lost his life as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Torres himself sustained injuries and was subsequently taken into custody after being discharged from the hospital.
Legal Proceedings
Torres is set to undergo a detention hearing on Saturday to address the charges brought against him in connection with the fatal DUI crash.
