A young man from Chicago is facing serious legal consequences after being involved in a tragic DUI crash that resulted in the death of his passenger, according to the local police department.
Jaime Torres Jr., aged 20 and a resident of Chicago Lawn, has been charged with two felony offences in connection with the incident. The charges include one count of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle and one count of aggravated DUI/accident/death. Additionally, Torres has been cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failing to reduce speed while driving.
The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning on the 3100 block of North Lake Shore Drive. Torres reportedly swerved his vehicle in an attempt to avoid colliding with another car on the road. However, his vehicle ultimately struck a curb and then crashed into a light pole, resulting in the tragic death of his passenger.
The passenger, a 25-year-old man named Jorge A. Castillo from DesPlaines, was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital following the crash. Torres himself sustained injuries in the accident and was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. He was later arrested by the authorities after being discharged from medical care.
Legal Proceedings and Detention Hearing
Jaime Torres Jr.’s detention hearing has been scheduled to take place on Saturday, where he will have the opportunity to address the charges brought against him in a court of law.
