Law enforcement officers tracked the suspect discreetly, without activating their emergency lights, to ensure the safety of the young child and other motorists. As the pursuit crossed state lines into Georgia, Georgia State Patrol troopers joined in the chase.

During the pursuit, Dornellas reportedly deliberately started a fire inside the vehicle, causing it to fill with smoke. In a shocking turn of events, he then leapt from the moving truck at a speed of 55 miles per hour, abandoning his son inside. The truck subsequently crashed and burst into flames, with Bennett trapped inside, allegedly as part of a sinister plan by Dornellas.

Joshua Dornellas, 31, faces multiple charges after he allegedly kidnapped his 3-year-old son and lit a car on fire with the boy still inside.
