Accident – Death – Obituary News :

On May 10, a shocking incident occurred in western New Mexico, where a 30-year-old man from Fruitland, Rydell Happy, is facing serious charges. Happy is accused of committing a heinous crime that resulted in the death of one man, identified only as “John Doe”, and injuring another individual. The incident also involved the terrorizing of a family during a road trip. The events unfolded during an April shooting spree in the region.

Details of the Incident

The tragic incident took place on April 24, when Navajo Nation police responded to a shooting on U.S. 491, approximately 40 miles north of Gallup. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a family, including young grandchildren, in a vehicle that had been riddled with bullet holes.

According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court, the driver of the vehicle informed the police that they had pulled over on U.S. 491 to take a break during their journey back from Utah. It was then that an SUV began following them, eventually rear-ending their vehicle before someone inside the SUV fired multiple shots at them.

The driver’s adult child witnessed a passenger leaning out of the SUV window and firing a gun at their vehicle. The police were able to locate the SUV shortly after the incident and pursued it until it crashed. Happy, along with two other individuals referred to as “Witness 1” and “Witness 2”, were detained at the scene.

Sequence of Events

Upon further investigation, Witness 1 revealed to the authorities that Happy had picked them up earlier in the day and later picked up “John Doe”, who appeared to be acquainted with Happy. Witness 1 also disclosed that Happy had instructed Witness 2 to purchase a .22 caliber revolver from a pawn shop in Gallup.

Throughout the day, the group engaged in criminal activities under Happy’s direction. The group’s first victim was a man they gave a ride to before demanding money from him and forcibly ejecting him from the vehicle.

Witness 1 recounted an incident where Happy handed them the revolver and ordered them to shoot the man in the leg. Subsequently, the group encountered a vehicle carrying family members on U.S. 491, which led to a confrontation between “John Doe” and Happy.

Witness 1 described an unsettling scene where Happy forced “John Doe” to kneel and beg for his life before callously shooting him as he pleaded. The witness further stated that Happy seemed to derive pleasure from the act, laughing before delivering the fatal shot.

After shooting “John Doe”, Happy proceeded to strike the victim’s head repeatedly with a baseball bat before pushing the body off a cliff. The authorities later discovered “John Doe’s” lifeless body on the edge of a cliff with signs of extensive trauma.

Investigation and Evidence

Following the incident, the authorities visited the pawn shop in Gallup, where an employee recalled two individuals purchasing a gun without showing any identification. The employee mentioned that a third person later entered the shop and bought the same gun before leaving with the group in the SUV.

Despite extensive searches, the revolver used in the crime has yet to be recovered. Witness 2, one of the individuals accompanying Happy, attempted to shift blame onto a hitchhiker they had picked up during the journey. However, Happy claimed to have no recollection of the events as he allegedly passed out from drinking.

Conclusion

The shocking events that transpired on April 24 in western New Mexico have left a community in mourning and raised concerns about the safety of individuals in the region. The case against Rydell Happy continues to unfold as authorities work to bring justice to the victims and their families.
