Recent developments in the investigation into the tragic murder of 15-year-old Cape Coral girl, Kayla Rincon-Miller, have shocked the community. The mother of Thomas Stein, Jessica Stein, who is the second defendant in the case, has come forward with new revelations about the events surrounding the crime.

In a report released by the Cape Coral Police Department, it was disclosed that the Steins were taken to a park where they were threatened with their lives. This incident occurred the night after the murder, on March 17, just before Thomas’ arrest on March 19. Jessica recounted how a white sedan arrived at their home, carrying Shanice Stewart, 36, and Christopher Horne Sr., 39, the parents of the main defendant, Christopher Horne Jr.

Shanice and Christopher Sr. revealed to Jessica and Thomas their sons’ involvement in the murder and instructed them to follow their car to the Gator Circle area in Cape Coral. Jessica expressed her fear for their lives during this ordeal, admitting that she felt a sense of impending danger.

Upon arrival at the park, Jessica and Thomas were surrounded by a group of individuals who threatened them, warning them not to cooperate with law enforcement. Varaka Stewart, Horne Jr.’s aunt, and Christopher Horne Sr., armed with a pistol, repeatedly threatened the Steins, coercing them into silence under the threat of death.

The following day, Thomas was arrested by detectives. Jessica later received visits from Shanice and Varaka, who offered her money to keep quiet and ensure Thomas did not divulge any information.

Subsequently, Jessica received multiple threatening phone calls between March 25 and April 17, urging her not to cooperate with the authorities. The caller, believed to be Shanice, warned Jessica about having connections that could harm her family if she did not comply. This intimidation tactics aimed to ensure their silence and protection of the individuals involved in the murder.

On April 17, Christopher Horne Jr. was arrested for the murder of Rincon-Miller. Following his arrest, Jessica received a call from the same caller, expressing distress about her son’s capture and issuing further threats.

Varaka, Shanice, and Christopher Horne Sr. now face charges of threatening, tampering with, or coercing a witness. Shanice was arrested for obstruction of justice, and Horne Jr. appeared for a motions hearing. Shanice has since been released on a $75,000 bond and is under GPS monitoring.

The unfolding events in this case have sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the disturbing lengths some individuals will go to in order to conceal the truth and evade justice.
