Lawrence, Kansas – Terrence Shannon Jr., a prominent player for the University of Illinois basketball team, has been ordered to stand trial on a serious rape charge following allegations made by a woman who described feeling “terrified” during the assault.

Shannon, aged 23 and hailing from Champaign, Illinois, is accused of committing sexual assault on September 9th in Lawrence, Kansas. The incident reportedly took place while Shannon was in Lawrence to attend a football game between the Illini and the University of Kansas.

The charges against Shannon include rape and an alternative count of sexual battery. These accusations led to Shannon being suspended for six games, although a federal judge later reinstated him, citing violations of his civil rights.

According to reports from the Lawrence Journal-World, a woman informed the authorities that Shannon had touched her inappropriately at a crowded bar, grabbing her buttocks and reaching under her skirt. The woman stated that she felt unable to move due to the crowded nature of the establishment.

During his testimony, Shannon denied any wrongdoing, asserting that he never touched the woman in question.

Following the testimonies presented, Judge Sally Pokorny decreed that Shannon must stand trial, allowing him to remain free on a bond of $50,000.

During the previous season, Shannon played a pivotal role for the Illini, leading the team in scoring and aiding them in reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, where they were ultimately defeated by the eventual champions, Connecticut.
