Paul Vinson : Mequon Police Chase: Man Accused in Fatal Crash

MEQUON, Wis. – A Milwaukee man has been charged by Ozaukee County prosecutors for fleeing a traffic stop in Mequon last November. This incident has now led to additional charges related to a fatal crash.

30-year-old Paul Vinson, the accused, was involved in a traffic stop at Port Washington and Donges Bay on the night of November 7, 2023. The vehicle, with Vinson as the driver, had a woman in the front passenger seat and two children in the back seat. The officer detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, prompting further investigation.

Vinson initially identified himself as “Kevin Briuce” and failed to produce a driver’s license. As the officer questioned the front passenger and inquired about the marijuana smell, Vinson attempted to drive away, nearly running over the officer’s foot in the process.

A high-speed pursuit ensued, reaching speeds of 83 mph in a 35 mph zone. Despite the officer’s efforts, Vinson managed to evade capture as he sped onto I-43 southbound, resulting in the termination of the chase.

Through investigative means, including a phone number and a Wisconsin Department of Transportation photograph, authorities were able to identify Vinson as the driver. The woman in the passenger’s seat was also identified, but Vinson evaded police when they attempted to approach him at her residence.

As a result of the incident, Vinson faces charges of attempting to flee/elude police, obstructing an officer, and felony bail jumping. He is yet to appear in court to answer to these charges.

Following the events in Mequon, Vinson was also involved in a pursuit and rollover crash in Waukesha County, which tragically claimed the lives of two of his sons. He has pleaded not guilty in relation to that case.
