SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office has officially named the two individuals who tragically lost their lives in an avalanche that occurred in Lone Peak Canyon on Thursday.

The victims have been identified as Andrew Cameron, a 23-year-old resident of Utah, and Austin Mallet, a 32-year-old resident of Montana.

Both men were caught in a deadly slide while skiing in Lone Peak Canyon on Thursday. Fortunately, a third individual who was also swept up in the avalanche managed to survive and has since been discharged from the hospital.

The Unified Police Department had previously announced that the surviving skier would not be publicly identified.
