Accident – Death – Obituary News :

After more than two decades, authorities have made a breakthrough in the case of the cold case death of Tara Louise Baker, a University of Georgia law student. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced on May 9 that Edrick Lamont Faust, 48, of Athens, has been arrested and charged with murder and other offences in connection with Baker’s death.

Tara Louise Baker was just 23 years old when she was tragically killed in a horrific act of violence. GBI Director Chris Hosey described her as a hardworking student with a bright future ahead of her.

The investigation into Baker’s death began in January 2001 when she was found dead in her burning apartment in Athens. It was determined that the fire was intentionally set, sparking a lengthy investigation that spanned over 20 years.

Authorities, including the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, worked tirelessly to unravel the circumstances surrounding Baker’s death. The arrest of Faust marks a significant development in the case, although details of how he was connected to Baker or what led to his arrest have not been disclosed.

Edrick Lamont Faust faces a range of charges, including murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, concealing the death of another person, arson, possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, tampering with evidence, and aggravated sodomy.

While Faust’s arrest cannot bring Tara Louise Baker back, GBI Director Chris Hosey expressed hope that it would bring some closure to her family as they continue their healing journey.

Authorities have announced plans to hold a news conference in the coming days to provide further details on the case.

Athens, where the tragic incident took place, is located approximately 70 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
