A tragic incident unfolded in Memphis as a man lost his life in what authorities are calling a case of robbery turned deadly. 26-year-old Kenyetta Hayes stands accused of First-Degree Murder in Perpetration of a Robbery after her alleged victim was found deceased at Cherokee Park.
Reports from News Channel 3 reveal that Hayes is believed to have taken $60 from the victim and used the money to purchase two wing combos following the violent encounter.
The unsettling events transpired on April 6 at Cherokee Park, where police responded to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, they discovered a man with a fatal gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The following day, Hayes’ mother brought her daughter to the authorities after a video of Hayes leaving the crime scene was circulated on the Memphis Police Department’s Facebook page.
According to the footage, Hayes is seen departing from the location before fleeing the scene.
During police questioning, Hayes admitted to being offered $60 to engage in oral sex with the victim at a local gas station. However, she confessed to having intentions of robbing him instead. Tragically, she allegedly shot the victim at the designated spot and absconded with his money. Hayes confessed to authorities that her primary motivation was greed, stating that she was “thirsty for money.” She further revealed that she used $47 of the stolen cash to purchase two hot wing combos for herself and her boyfriend post the crime.
Hayes’ mother, identified as Shante Jones by Fox 13 Memphis, provided insight into why she made the difficult decision to turn her daughter in. “I don’t condone violence. I don’t. If you do something, you will pay for it,” Jones expressed, emphasizing the importance of accountability.
Reflecting on the tragic events, Jones urged young individuals to exercise caution in their actions and choices. “Think about what you’re doing. They need to be a leader, not a follower, and watch who they hang around with,” she added.
