Selena Quintanilla Silva : “Edinburg Child Abuse Case Affidavit Details”

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A disturbing case of child abuse has led to the arrest of two women and a man in Edinburg. Selena Quintanilla Silva, 21, Mathew Martinez, and Maria del Rosario Castillo, 50, are facing charges related to the abuse of a 17-month-old infant.

Selena Quintanilla Silva has been charged with injury to a child, child endangerment, tampering with evidence, and perjury. Mathew Martinez, Silva’s boyfriend, was arrested by Beaumont police on a charge of injury to a child. Maria del Rosario Castillo, Martinez’s mother, faces the same charges as Silva.

A probable cause affidavit provided details into the three arrests. The incident came to light when officers responded to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance after receiving a report of an injured child. The infant arrived at the hospital unresponsive with visible bruising all over her body and multiple fractures.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Silva had initially lied about the circumstances surrounding the child’s injuries. However, she later confessed to striking the child with a wooden board multiple times. Castillo also admitted to physically harming the infant, causing further trauma.

Investigation and Charges

Authorities discovered evidence of ongoing abuse during a search of the residence where the child lived. Bloody clothing was found in a dumpster, indicating attempts to dispose of incriminating evidence. Both Silva and Castillo implicated each other in the disposal of the clothing.

Police also found disturbing messages on the suspects’ cellphones, detailing instances of violence towards the child. Martinez was implicated in causing a bruise under the infant’s chin, further implicating him in the abuse.

Following their arraignment, Silva and Castillo were each given a bond of $420,000. Martinez is set to be arraigned in the coming days. The child, who suffered severe injuries, is under medical care and receiving treatment.
