A tragic incident unfolded in northeast Delhi’s Harsh Vihar area as a man fell victim to a brutal stabbing by three youths during a robbery attempt. The suspects, identified as Suraj (19), Rohit a.k.a Rayata (18), and Major (18), have been apprehended by the authorities.
Authorities have recovered the stolen mobile phone of the deceased, Jagatpal, a resident of Milan Garden, along with the weapon used in the attack, a button-actuated knife, from the possession of the accused.
The incident came to light when a Police Control Room (PCR) call reporting a stabbing was received at the Harsh Vihar police station in the early hours of Wednesday. Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that Jagatpal had already been rushed to GTB Hospital by a neighbour.
“He sustained stab wounds to his chest and left hand, and despite receiving medical attention, he tragically succumbed to his injuries,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey.
An intensive investigation ensued, involving technical surveillance and intelligence gathering from local sources. Following leads, the authorities were able to track down and apprehend Major and Rahul from the Shalimar Garden area, while the third suspect was captured in Sonipat, Haryana.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, revealing that their motive stemmed from unemployment and the dire need to sustain themselves financially through petty crimes.
Detailing the events of the fatal night, the DCP explained, “The suspects spotted a lone individual near Milan Garden and quickly accosted him with a knife, attempting to rob him of his mobile phone. When the victim resisted, they resorted to violence, stabbing him before fleeing the scene.”
