In a shocking and horrific incident, a man named Prakash committed a heinous crime by brutally beheading a 16-year-old girl in the Surlabbi district of Kodagu. The motive behind this gruesome act was the postponement of their proposed marriage due to the girl being a minor.
The accused, 32-year-old Prakash, fled the scene after committing the murder, and as of now, he remains at large, with law enforcement authorities on the lookout for him.
Background of the Incident
The victim, identified as Meena, had recently completed her SSLC examinations this year, and her engagement with Prakash was finalized on Thursday. However, concerns were raised about the legality of the marriage as she was still a minor.
Officials from the Child Welfare Department intervened when they were informed about the situation and counselled both families about the legal implications of proceeding with the marriage. It was agreed that the marriage would only take place once Meena turned 18.
The Gruesome Assault
Despite the agreement, Prakash took matters into his own hands and carried out a brutal attack on Meena and her family. He forcibly entered their home, attacked her parents, and then dragged Meena outside, where he decapitated her with a sharp-edged weapon. He then fled the scene with her head, leaving a trail of shock and horror in his wake.
Meena’s parents were rushed to the hospital, with her mother sustaining injuries from the assault. The father, fortunately, escaped with no visible injuries.
Legal Actions Taken
Law enforcement authorities have registered a case against Prakash under Sections 307 (attempted murder) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act. The police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the accused and bring him to justice.
Meena was the youngest among her siblings, with three sisters and two brothers. The entire community is in shock and mourning over this senseless act of violence.
