A devastating car accident between a pickup truck and a hospital ambulance on the Chiang Mai-Phrao Road in the northern province of Chiang Mai has left six people injured and five others dead, including a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
The Chiang Mai Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office received a distressing notification about the accident around 5.20 pm on May 9. Thai authorities and rescuers from various foundations rushed to the scene in the Mae Taeng district.
Upon reaching the site, officials found two severely damaged vehicles near the roadside forest. The recent rain had left the road slippery, leading to the tragic collision. All occupants of both vehicles sustained injuries and were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The ambulance was carrying four individuals, including the driver, a medical worker, the pregnant woman, and her relative. On the other hand, the pickup truck was transporting six people.
According to ThaiRath, the ambulance driver was trapped in his seat due to the impact, requiring rescuers to use a metal cutting tool to free him. The medical worker suffered limb deformities as a result of the crash.
Tragically, five individuals succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, including three occupants of the pickup truck, the pregnant woman, and her unborn child. Six others are currently receiving medical care at hospitals.

The ambulance from Phrao Hospital was on its way to transfer the pregnant woman to another hospital in the Mueang district of Chiang Mai for childbirth when the tragic accident occurred. The pickup truck lost control on the rain-slicked road, leading to the collision with the ambulance.
The authorities are currently investigating the official cause of the accident. A thorough inquiry, involving interviews and a detailed examination, will be conducted to determine the exact circumstances that led to this heartbreaking incident.
