A couple from Northern Iowa was arrested after a routine traffic stop revealed the presence of marijuana in their vehicle.
Arrest of Northern Iowa Couple
On the evening of May 4, 2024, the Sac County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 71 and 255th Street. The officers pulled over a 2014 Dodge car due to dim headlights. Upon further investigation, the law enforcement officials detected the distinct smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The driver, Larame Leo Swenson of Laurens, was identified during the stop.
Subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia in the front passenger seat area. The passenger, 35-year-old Mist Renea Pettit, also from Laurens, was arrested on a charge of second-offense possession of marijuana. As deputies were conducting a field sobriety test on Swenson, a baggy of marijuana allegedly fell out of his pants, resulting in his arrest on a charge of third-offense possession of marijuana.
Both suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Sac County Jail for further processing.
