Hyderabad: In a worrying turn of events, a 26-year-old Indian student hailing from Telangana has been reported missing since May 2 in Chicago. Rupesh Chandra Chintakanti, a student pursuing his masters at Concordia University in Wisconsin, has not been in contact with his family or friends for over a week.

The Indian Consulate in Chicago has expressed deep concern over the disappearance of Rupesh. In a statement released on social media, the Consulate mentioned, “The Consulate is deeply concerned to learn that Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi has been incommunicado since 2nd May. We are working closely with the local police and the Indian diaspora to locate and reestablish contact with Rupesh.”

According to the Chicago Police, Rupesh was last seen in the 4300 block of N Sheridan Road. They have urged community members to reach out to the Chicago Police Department Area Three SVU at 312-744-8266 or call 911 if they have any information about Rupesh’s whereabouts.

Rupesh’s parents, who reside in Telangana’s Hanamkonda, are understandably distressed about their son’s disappearance. They have appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Embassy to expedite efforts in locating Rupesh.

Instances of Indian students facing unfortunate incidents overseas, particularly those from the Telugu States, have been on the rise. Recent incidents include the tragic deaths of Indian students in a car accident and a fatal altercation between two Indian students, which have sparked widespread concern.
