A man from Randolph, identified as Marquis Alexander, with a lengthy 19-page arrest record is facing serious charges after allegedly threatening to stab a woman with a hypodermic needle at a bus stop in Boston.

Incident Details

The incident took place near South Station in Boston on Monday. The woman, who was waiting at the Silver Line bus stop on Essex Street, was approached by Alexander. He reportedly asked her for the time, but when she did not respond, he made a threatening gesture with a hypodermic syringe filled with blood.

The woman immediately sought help from an MBTA police officer who was on duty at the location. She informed the officer about the incident and pointed towards Alexander as the suspect.

Charges and Arrest

Marquis Alexander, aged 32, has been charged with assault with a hypodermic needle, possession of heroin (subsequent offense), and possession of a class E drug (subsequent offense) in connection with the incident.

Upon approaching Alexander, the police officer noticed him hiding an object in his sweatshirt pocket, which was later revealed to be a hypodermic needle. After being ordered to drop the needle, Alexander complied, and further search revealed two more needles, a silver gum wrapper containing a brown substance suspected to be heroin, and a clear plastic bag containing crushed narcotic pills.

Legal Proceedings

Following his arrest, Alexander was ordered to be held on $2,500 bail and was also instructed to stay away from the bus stop where the incident occurred. Additionally, the judge revoked Alexander’s bail in a separate pending case in Roxbury where he is facing charges related to drug distribution.

He is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause hearing on June 5. Alexander’s criminal history dates back to 2003, with convictions for various violent and drug-related offences in Boston, Brockton, and Quincy. In 2019, he was convicted for unarmed robbery in Suffolk Superior Court and sentenced to three years in state prison.

Statement from Suffolk DA

Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden emphasised the importance of ensuring personal safety and security in public spaces. He stated, “Personal safety and security of place are our goals for all residents and visitors to Boston, whether they’re walking to work, shopping, sitting in a restaurant, or waiting at a bus stop. We know that repeat offenders can have a pronounced role in degrading neighbourhood quality of life, and we will continue our focus on holding them accountable.”
