The mother of Winter Basurto has provided an update on her daughter’s condition following a tragic shooting incident that took place in a home on Santala Drive in West Knoxville. Winter’s mother, Michelle, revealed that Winter is still in the hospital, a week and a half after the incident occurred.
The incident unfolded on April 27th when Knoxville Police responded to a domestic call at the residence. Upon arrival, officers identified themselves as police, only to witness Jamauri Griffin shooting Winter Basurto. In response, the police fired at Griffin, resulting in his death at the scene.
Winter’s mother issued a statement expressing gratitude for the community’s support during this challenging time. She highlighted Winter’s resilience, faith, and courage as she faces a long road to recovery, including multiple reconstructive surgeries and adjustments to a new way of life.
