Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The mother of a 10-month-old baby has been charged in connection with an Amber Alert issued by state police in Virginia. The alert was issued for Cedar Samuel Griffith, who was believed to have been in “extreme danger” following a child abduction on Monday at about 8:10 p.m. ET. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Ashley Jordan Griffith, was the woman “believed” to have taken the baby.

Following a motorist assistance stop at around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Ashley Griffith was arrested by the sheriff’s office in Madison County, Kentucky. It was later revealed that Griffith is the child’s mother. The reasons behind the alleged abduction are still unknown as of Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Shane Johnson made contact with Griffith during the stop, where she claimed to need a jump start for her vehicle. However, further investigation led to her arrest on charges of resisting arrest and being a fugitive from another state. Griffith is currently being held in the Madison County Detention Center, while the baby has been taken into custody by the sheriff’s deputies.

The Virginia State Police updated their alert to confirm that “both missing individuals have been safely located.” Prior to Griffith’s arrest, the baby was last seen on Daniel Boone Road in Gate City, Virginia, near the border with Tennessee. The two were eventually found at the 5800 block of Battlefield Memorial Highway in Berea, Kentucky, more than 160 miles away from Gate City.

Amber Alerts were first introduced in 1996 following the tragic abduction and death of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman in Arlington, Texas. When law enforcement determines that a child has been abducted and meets the criteria for an Amber Alert, broadcasters and state transportation officials are notified to help spread the word.

The program has been instrumental in the recovery of over 1,200 children, according to the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs. In 2022 alone, a total of 227 Amber Alerts were issued across the United States.
