In Vernon, Connecticut, a man was taken into custody on Tuesday following an incident where he reportedly threatened and pursued a woman with a firearm.
Law enforcement officials were alerted to a potential domestic disturbance involving the menacing display of a gun at approximately 1 p.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers learned that a male individual had brandished a handgun and pursued a female victim. The woman managed to escape, but the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Xavier Velez of Vernon, gave chase for a short distance before being apprehended by the authorities.
Although Velez did not have the weapon in his possession at the time of his arrest, a police K9 unit successfully located the firearm in a nearby wooded area.
As a result of his actions, Velez was taken into custody on charges related to domestic violence and the illegal possession of a firearm. He is set to make an appearance in court on May 8 to address the allegations brought against him.
