Accident – Death – Obituary News :

On the evening of May 5, 2024, Winnipeg Police responded to a distress call at a residence on Boyd Avenue. The call reported a domestic disturbance involving an intoxicated man, later identified as 18-year-old Haidyn Bingley Blackbird. What started as a routine response quickly turned into a violent altercation.

Upon arrival, the North District General Patrol officers found themselves in a challenging situation. Blackbird, clearly in an agitated state, was involved in a physical altercation with a family member. When the officers attempted to intervene, he redirected his aggression towards them.

In a chaotic turn of events, Blackbird assaulted the officers, managed to disarm one of them of a Taser, and even resorted to biting two officers in his attempt to resist arrest. Despite the danger they faced, the officers maintained their composure and successfully subdued and apprehended Blackbird.

Due to his extreme intoxication from various substances, Blackbird was taken to the hospital for sedation and medical evaluation. Once cleared by medical professionals, he was formally charged with multiple offences, including three counts of assaulting a peace officer, disarming a peace officer, and uttering threats.

The violent encounter left three officers injured, with two of them requiring hospital treatment. Fortunately, all officers have since been released from medical care and are recovering from their injuries. Blackbird remains in police custody as the legal proceedings unfold.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that law enforcement officers face in the line of duty. The swift and decisive actions of the Winnipeg Police officers prevented further harm and ensured the safety of all individuals involved.
