NORTH BRADDOCK, Pennsylvania — A man who brandished a firearm at a pastor during a church service in Pennsylvania on Sunday has been charged with homicide after his cousin was discovered shot to death, according to the Allegheny County Police.
Bernard Junior Polite, 26, was taken into custody on Sunday after allegedly trying to shoot Rev. Glenn Germany during a sermon at the Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in the Pittsburgh suburb of North Braddock.

The incident, which was captured on a live stream, showed Polite being subdued by a church deacon after his gun malfunctioned.
Following Polite’s arrest, the body of a 56-year-old man — identified as Derek Polite — was found fatally shot in the suspect’s residence, according to authorities.

Law enforcement officials revealed on Tuesday that the suspect had been formally charged with homicide in connection with the death of the victim, who was his cousin.
Witnesses interviewed by detectives stated that they observed the suspect “lurking outside the property” on the morning of the church incident, and a neighbour “claimed to have heard a sound resembling a gunshot.”
Polite is currently in custody awaiting his court appearance.
According to a police report, Polite allegedly admitted to attempting to take the pastor’s life, stating to a police officer, “God instructed me to carry out the act.”
In an interview with “Good Morning America,” the pastor described his survival of the assassination attempt as a “miracle.”
“He pulled the trigger, and by the grace of God, the gun malfunctioned. That bullet was meant for me,” Germany recounted.
Germany shared that he noticed Polite entering the church, where the suspect made eye contact with him before approaching the pulpit and aiming the firearm. The deacon, Clarence McCallister, intervened by tackling Polite while Germany sought refuge behind a lectern.
“I reacted instinctively and managed to disarm him,” McCallister told “GMA.”
Germany commended McCallister’s swift response as “an act of heroism unparalleled.”
