Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 19-year-old male from Florissant, Missouri, has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the tragic deaths of siblings Marc Rhodes, 19, and Lanija Cooper, 20, in St. Louis County. The suspect, identified as Lamarr Harris, allegedly took a Lyft ride to and from the victims’ residence, where the deadly incident took place, according to authorities from the St. Louis County Police Department.
Law enforcement officials responded to reports of a shooting in Midland, located approximately 18 miles west of St. Louis, early on Sunday morning. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the two siblings suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, both individuals were pronounced dead on-site.
Investigations into the incident revealed that Harris, who had previously been romantically involved with Cooper, suspected her of vandalizing his new girlfriend’s vehicle by slashing its tires the night before the fatal confrontation. On the morning of the incident, Harris enlisted the services of a Lyft driver to transport him to the victims’ home, where a heated altercation ensued between him and Cooper’s brother, Marc. Subsequently, Harris allegedly brandished a weapon and fatally shot Marc during the altercation.
Following the shooting, Harris attempted to flee the scene using the same Lyft vehicle, but responding officers were able to apprehend him swiftly. The firearm used in the crime was recovered by law enforcement at the scene.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office formally charged Harris on Monday, setting his bail at $750,000 cash only, with no 10% bond option. Harris is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on June 6. Additionally, court documents indicate that the defendant has a prior pending case in St. Louis County related to drug possession and possession of a controlled substance with a weapon.
In response to the tragic incident, Lyft expressed condolences to the victims’ families and confirmed that the suspect had been permanently banned from the ride-sharing platform. The company also pledged full cooperation with law enforcement authorities in their ongoing investigation.
