PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A man suspected of domestic violence led Oregon State Police (OSP) on a high-speed chase through Marion and Clackamas counties on Monday afternoon.

Around noon on Monday, OSP troopers were investigating a domestic assault that happened on Sunday on Highway 214 near Silver Falls State Park. Troopers found the suspect’s car on 72nd Avenue near Joseph Street Southeast east of Salem.

A man is behind bars for sex crimes against three women in the houseless community, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

The car eluded troopers and went northbound on I-5 from the Salem area, driving over 115 mph. Troopers and Salem police followed the car until it got stuck in a field off northeast Eilers Road south of Wilsonville.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Matthew James Rodgers, refused to get out of the car and armed himself with a hatchet.

After negotiations with Rogers did not work, police used a chemical irritant in the car. Rogers left the car and was arrested.

He was charged with burglary, attempts to elude police, reckless driving, reckless endangering, criminal mischief, assault IV (domestic), strangulation, harassment (domestic), coercion (domestic) and unlawful use of a weapon.
