SEVERN, Md. – A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday, leading to a fatal accident in Jessup, Maryland. The collision, resulting from a high-speed pursuit, claimed the life of one individual and left several others with severe injuries.
The sequence of events commenced at approximately 12:55 a.m. on May 6, 2024, when a vigilant patrol officer spotted a speeding vehicle on Annapolis Road near Reece Road in Severn, prompting an attempted traffic stop. The vehicle, evading the authorities, accelerated further, prompting the officer to terminate the pursuit. Shortly thereafter, emergency services received reports of a crash on Jessup Road.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the vehicle involved, a Lexus IS 350, was travelling at excessive speeds along Jessup Road when it failed to navigate a bend, veering off the road and colliding with a vacant house.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Trayquan Edward Mckesson from Odenton, and four passengers were swiftly transported to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with grave injuries. Another passenger was taken to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Tragically, one of the passengers, Julie Michelle Nushawg, 26, from Pasadena, succumbed to her injuries at the trauma center.
The remaining passengers, including Diamond Shanae Cole, 22, from Stoney Beach; Jayla Scotlin Smith, 23, from Baltimore; Dominik Lee Maddox, 21, from Upper Marlboro; and De’Andre Lewis-Queen, 23, from Glen Burnie, are currently in a serious condition, receiving medical attention.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
