A man has been arrested in Asheville, North Carolina, after allegedly using an American flag as a weapon during an incident at a grocery store on Tunnel Road on Sunday afternoon.
The Asheville Police Department responded to a call at 1:58 p.m. reporting an assault on an employee at the store. The employee had confronted the man, who was attempting to steal a beverage. As the staff escorted the man out of the store, he grabbed an American flag and struck the employee in the head, causing minor injuries, before fleeing the scene.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Caleb Cameron McRae, was later located by officers at a fast-food restaurant and taken into custody.
McRae has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, trespassing in the second degree, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $2,000 secured bond.
