CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Following a tragic hit-and-run crash on Morrison Drive that claimed the lives of two young women from Simpsonville, a second individual has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Authorities have identified the victims as Lizzy Zito and Arianna Gamber, both 20 years old, who were fatally struck by a vehicle in the early hours of Sunday, April 28. The initial collision involving the victims and the first suspect, Max Gentilin, was followed by another vehicle striking the victims, driven by 32-year-old Seth Alan Gilbert William Carlson of Summerville.

Investigation and Arrest

After diligently pursuing all leads and evidence, investigators were able to identify Carlson as the driver of the Chevrolet truck that first struck the victims. Surveillance footage obtained from the South Carolina Ports Authority played a crucial role in piecing together the events leading up to the tragic incident.

Carlson’s truck was later found abandoned in West Ashley, where he had crashed into a ditch before fleeing the scene. He has since been charged with two counts of reckless vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Carlson is currently in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Statement from Charleston Police Chief

Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker expressed his commitment to seeking justice for the victims, stating, “The tragedy of this case deepens with the realization that the decisions of two individuals have forever altered the lives of these two families.”

He added, “What might seem improbable to some is a heartbreaking reality for these families. My heart and prayers are continuously with the families and loved ones of Lizzy and Arianna.”

Further Developments in the Case

Authorities were able to link the second suspect, Max Gentilin, to the incident through debris found at the crash site and surveillance video footage. Gentilin, 25, was identified as the driver of the vehicle that struck the victims after they had been hit by Carlson’s truck.

Gentilin turned himself in to authorities on April 30 and was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing death. He was granted a $300,000 surety bond and released from the Charleston County Detention Center.

Legal Proceedings and Prosecution

Solicitor Scarlett Wilson of the Ninth Judicial Circuit, who will be handling the prosecution of the case, stated that the two incidents will be dealt with separately. Wilson emphasised the need for expert testimony regarding the cause of death and the actions of each vehicle involved in the tragic event.

Zito, the father of victim Lizzy Zito, expressed his gratitude towards the police department for their relentless efforts in seeking justice for his daughter and her friend. He urged the community to show their support by attending court hearings related to the case.
