Two women were taken to the hospital on Monday night after they were shot in Upper Manhattan, according to police reports.

Officers from the NYPD responded to a 911 call for a person shot at around 8:30 p.m. in front of 560 West 144th St. in Hamilton Heights. Upon arrival, they found a 63-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to her left underarm and right hand, as well as a 39-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her right leg.

Both victims were transported to Harlem Hospital in stable condition, authorities confirmed. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, as well as the relationship between the victims and the shooter.

As of early Tuesday morning, no suspects have been identified in connection with the incident.

Incidents of gun violence are relatively rare in the 30th NYPD precinct, which includes the West Harlem neighbourhoods of Hamilton Heights and Sugar Hill, as well as Riverside Park and Jackie Robinson Park. According to NYPD data compiled by Gothamist, there were two fatal shootings in the precinct last year, occurring in separate incidents.

Since the beginning of this year, there have been two reported shootings in the precinct. In January, 39-year-old Omar Espinal lost his life after being shot in a car on West 135th Street.
