The incident occurred on the evening of 2 May at the Jatatguru Sports Academy Ground in Lahegaon, Pune. The boy, identified as Shambhu Kalidas Khanve, also known as Shaurya, was enjoying a game of cricket with his friends when the unfortunate incident took place.
Shaurya was actively participating in the game, bowling to his friends, when one of the batters hit a powerful shot that ended up striking him in his private parts. The impact of the ball hitting Shaurya caused him to collapse in excruciating pain. A CCTV camera at the ground captured the heart-wrenching moment.
Immediately following the incident, Shaurya’s friends rushed to his aid, with one of them attempting to revive him. Despite their efforts, Shaurya remained unresponsive. Concerned onlookers quickly gathered and transported Shaurya to a nearby hospital. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Shaurya was pronounced dead.
Authorities have registered a case of “accidental death” at the Vimantal Police Station in Pune, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident. An officer from the police station shared, “Initial information suggests that Shaurya had gone to play cricket with friends at the Jagatguru Sports Academy Ground, which offers night playing facilities. Shaurya was bowling, and when the batsman struck the ball, it hit Shaurya in a vulnerable area, causing him to collapse.”
